Land Use Policy Planning Department (LUPPD)

Land Use Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Land and Land Development was established with a view to introduce scientific land use planning procedures to the country. The main objectives of the establishment of the department were to create the legal background for preparing and implementing the National Land Use Policy for Sri Lanka, provide technical guidelines to use the valuable but limited land resources for the betterment of the people of the country while maintaining sustainability and environmental balance, maintaining the environmental equilibrium.The Department in addition to the head office situated in Colombo has a district office network all districts. In addition to District level offices, there are about 265 field level officers attached to the Divisional Secretary Divisions in order to perform grass root level land use planning activities.
